China, Costa Rica move closer to trade agreement
June 16th, 2009Chinese negotiators were in San Jose, Costa Rica yesterday for the third round of talks over the terms of a free trade agreement, which is expected to be signed later this year. Costa Rica only switched diplomatic ties to the PRC from Taiwan two years ago. Unlike China’s other exsisting FTAs (with Chile and Peru), copper and other mineral commodities are not at the heart of the deal. Costa Rica’s major exports to China include agricultural products and meat. The Central American country is also notable exporter of computer parts.
